Activities As we are a working farm, we have taken great care to ensure that your children can play safely but still experience life on a real farm. During the eight years that we have been welcoming young families we have built two play areas for you to enjoy. The first is in our main gardens, which are ‘toddler-proof’ and thoroughly tested for security by our own 5 year old, Daisy, and by her brothers before her! You will find that there is so much for your toddler to explore that you will be able to sit on our swinging seat in the sunshine, or on one of our many garden seats, and watch your children at play. Apart from climbing frames, swings and a slide, we have created a miniature farm in the old orchard. Your children can start their adventures in the farm yard, manoeuvring one of our many pedal tractors or dumpers and pedal round our mini lanes to the sand barn, where they can work a mini digger before going home to tea in the miniature farmhouse! We have tools for repairing problem tractors and rollers and trailers to tow. Once your child’s imagination is fired, the only limit to the game will be when it’s time to go out! Our second playground is situated in the old walled farmyard behind the main house and we have had a large climbable wooden tractor and trailer slide made for this area. A great place to play if you want to imagine driving a real tractor! There is also a large picnic table and wooden seating for grownups. Why not make yourselves a picnic lunch in the baby kitchen, and enjoy it watching your children play? On hot days, we have a water table and paddling pool for playing at, and in too. If you are feeling more energetic, we can lend you a backpack to carry your children down into our woods and along our beautiful stretch of private river. Borrow a fishing net and look for minnows – and if you’re really lucky, a trout! And if you find it’s nearly lunchtime, then you are only a short walk from the village pottery where they serve good light lunches and welcome small children enthusiastically too. Or you can wait, and join us on our Tractor and Trailer Adventure, when we take you on a guided tour of our woods and river and go pond dipping, before enjoying a leisurely riverside supper and a trailer ride home! If you’re staying in the Nursery Rhyme Barn with under 7s, you will be able to make use of the playgrounds and outdoor play equipment in the farmhouse gardens and join in morning animal feeding sessions. Older children will be able to visit our animals during the course of the day and, in the evening, take part in bedding down and shutting in our animals for the night. As the main farmhouse gardens are designed to be exclusively for the under 7s, we ask barn guests not to bring older children to play in these areas.
